About Me

Greetings! I am called Jamie. As important as it may be to know someone’s name, it leaves little to infer about one’s character, experience, history, or anything really. So, who am I?

I am a relentless seeker of knowledge, insights, and enlightenment to share unique perspectives with others; how we see the world varies by experience. I applied to study at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad Scandinavia (DIS) because DIS blends their theory-based courses with practical hands-on learning. Their approach to education and unique curriculum differs from my selection at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada.

Of course, knowledge is held on a pedestal, but, knowledge is only practical after experience reforms knowledge into wisdom. But, all I have to work with right now is data, information, and knowledge.

Occasionally, I’m frustrated with the lack of information available. For example, limited reviews for courses that I was interested in. I imagine that perhaps, I wasn’t looking hard enough. For prospective students and current students, I intend to share candidly about the course content and process. After some research, I enrolled in the following courses:

  • Core Course: Terrorism & Counterterrorism: A European Perspective
    • Course Tour: Dublin – Belfast on March 2nd – March 10th
  • Concept of Evil in Contemporary Culture
  • Religion and Politics
  • Philosophy of Love

To me, wisdom is determining appropriate actions to take in given circumstances whilst recognizing consequences. Of course, there’s insight; we often have the ability to transfer our experiences and learned skills to relevant situations, but in order to develop wisdom, life experience is essential.

“Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

As previously mentioned, how we see the world varies by experience. Our culture and our values are often bound by location, external influences. Having heard that Danish people were outspoken, open-minded, and one of the most helpful and trustworthy people, I am particular eager to learn from them. In fact, my housing at DIS’ Kollegium, is a perfect opportunity where I can enrich my personal growth, engage cross-culturally, and partake in a close-knit community. By virtue of immersing in DIS’ community spirit through the Kollegium social events, I believe I will expand my worldview, engage with Denmark’s rich cultural world, and befriend a handful of intuitive and like-minded people who hold differing opinions and interests!

And, so, my trial is imminent. My journey draws near. There will be times of adversity; whether it be bouts of culture shock or times of homesickness. But, I have played my cards. Regardless of challenges, I seek to thrive and gain greater insights. For this is a journey of growth, but also a quest for truth. It’s time to embark on my odyssey.

This is where the journey of the Fool begins.

The Fool is a card of potential and new beginnings. The card speaks of someone at the start of a formative journey or experience; who they will become is still a mystery. Adventure and new opportunities await.
