Arrival | Welcome to Copenhagen!

While I was on the plane, I couldn’t believe and feel like I was actually going abroad to Denmark. In fact, I used my time on the plane to do some course readings like an everyday university habits.

Even now, it feels like a dream.

It wasn’t until I touched down at Copenhagen airport and was greeted by DIS staff inside the baggage pick-up area that I realized: I’m actually here.

Walking through was a bit nerve-wrecking, but I’ve arrived. The staff kindly let me know that we would see more of them when we exit. Lines and lines of DIS students trekked to Clarion Hotel. (I say trekked, but it wasn’t even a 5 minute walk).

Props to all the DIS staff managing all these students!

At Clarion Hotel, we were ushered to pick up stickers, receive our arrival packages, sit down, and connect with other students. We would be boarding based on our routes differentiated by sticker colors. As one of the students said, the amount of students here was equivalent to a small school. Not to mention they kept on leaving in bus loads!

Remember to bring a paperclip to set-up your new SIM card!

Many of the students I chatted with seemed to know one another from either being on the same flight, or came from the same school. I didn’t realize some Colleges only housed about 3000 people! According to Elise and Nancy, two students from Smith College, they would bump into each other regularly!

Even so, it was fairly easy to make conversation with other students. I couldn’t find anyone who was taking Terrorism and Counterterrorism yet, but I did get a different range; from Positive Psychology to Cultural Diversity and Integration. I’m actually pretty curious about what kind of things they will discuss in Positive Psychology. One of my dormmates is taking that!

Important Side Note: Make sure to check your flight regarding meals! As someone who has flown international regularly, I had assumed every international flight would include complimentary meal services. I was sorely mistaken!

Icelandair’s service was excellent. They were prepared and ready to support when we needed it. In case anyone else plans to fly by Icelandair, please make sure to visit their website regarding their meal services. You receive a 10% discount if you reserve your meal 48 hours ahead of time!

The morning went by in a flurry. It has been a full 40 hours since I last slept, and making words flow takes too much brain power right now. I’ll share more about my second welcoming at the Kollegium after some rest!
